750 high school kids will get access to clean water and sanitation this summer

Two Cents of Hope is pleased to announce launch of its first infrastructure project in rural Andhra Pradesh. The project, which is aimed at providing clean water and sanitation facilities in two schools in Godavari district, will benefit 580 girls and 170 boys attending these schools. The total estimated cost is Rs. 3.11 lacs or USD 6,925.

The first school, Zilla Parishad Oriental High School, is located in Siddapuram Village. Most of the students come from nearby villages like Chinnamillipadu, Kallingudem, Rajulapeta and Pedakotrada. Most students’ parents depend on daily labor and their monthly income varies from Rs. 2000 – Rs. 4000. The second school is a Girls’ High School in Madivada Center, Akividu Village. This school is especially for girls and it is centrally located in Akividu village. It is accessible from other small villages such as Gummuluru, Kuppanapudi, and Madivada. These schools are the only high schools in the five nearby villages.

Nirmaan aims to increase enrolment by 5% every year and ensure less than 2% drop out rates. Both schools currently lack proper sanitation and drinking water facilities.

Our goal is to make these Govt. schools model schools so the villages can attract more and more students from these five villages, so the kids are not discouraged by the distance from schools, but still have access to the best facilities. According to sources at Nirmaan, the teachers are highly acclaimed, and the schools have received Rashtrapathi award for teaching in the past.

The local bodies, including the parents, school staff, and local Gram Panchayat have committed to pitch towards the 15% increase in price hike since last January. Prices of all materials have gone up in the past year due to inflation, and the local bodies have committed to contribute to this increase.

Krishna Sagar Gontla of Nirmaan Organization will be leading the construction team and will provide regular updates from the ground.
